What is image metadata?

Image metadata is information stored alongside the visible pixels. Cameras and phones may record the device model, lens, exposure, date taken, editing software, copyright details, and the GPS coordinates where a photo was captured.

Use the viewer before you share

Location and device details can be useful in a private photo library but revealing in a public post. Inspect the file here, then use the Photo Privacy Checker for a plain-language risk summary or the EXIF Cleaner to create a clean copy.

Supported image metadata

The viewer looks for EXIF/TIFF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, ICC, thumbnail, and interoperability fields. Browser and file-format support varies; HEIC or TIFF metadata may be readable even when the browser cannot draw a preview.

Frequently asked questions

Does this image metadata viewer upload my photo?

No. The selected file is read by JavaScript in your browser and is not sent to SuperUtils.

What photo metadata can I see?

When present, the viewer shows camera and lens details, exposure settings, capture dates, GPS coordinates, author and copyright fields, software history, IPTC, XMP, ICC, and raw tag values.

Why does my photo have no EXIF data?

Screenshots, edited exports, messaging apps, and social networks often remove metadata. Some image formats also contain only basic file properties.
