A4 paper size in inches, CM, MM and pixels.

A4 measures exactly 210 × 297 millimeters. Here are the equivalent dimensions in centimeters and inches, plus the correct pixel size for common screen and print resolutions.

What size is A4 paper?

A4 is 210 millimeters wide and 297 millimeters high in portrait orientation. That equals 21 × 29.7 centimeters or approximately 8.27 × 11.69 inches. Landscape A4 uses the same sheet with width and height reversed.

The dimensions come from ISO 216, the international standard for trimmed A- and B-series paper. The inch values are rounded because the standard defines A4 in millimeters.

A4 size in pixels

A4 has no single pixel size. Pixels describe a digital image, while A4 describes a physical sheet. The correct width and height depend on the intended pixels per inch (PPI).

A4 pixel dimensions by resolution
ResolutionPortrait pixelsTypical use
72 PPI595 × 842 pxBasic screen preview
96 PPI794 × 1123 pxCommon screen/CSS reference
150 PPI1240 × 1754 pxDraft or everyday print
200 PPI1654 × 2339 pxGood-quality print
300 PPI2480 × 3508 pxHigh-quality print

For landscape, reverse the two pixel dimensions. For example, A4 landscape at 300 PPI is 3508 × 2480 pixels.

Which A4 pixel size should you use?

For screens

Use the pixel dimensions required by the website or app. If no requirement is given, 794 × 1123 pixels at the A4 aspect ratio is a practical lightweight preview.

For everyday printing

150–200 PPI is often sufficient for drafts, handouts, or images viewed at a normal distance.

For high-quality printing

Use 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 PPI when the source has enough detail. A larger pixel count cannot restore detail missing from a small original.

How to calculate A4 dimensions in pixels

Convert the millimeter dimensions to inches, then multiply by the required PPI:

pixels = millimeters ÷ 25.4 × PPI

At 300 PPI, the width is 210 ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 2480.31 pixels, and the height is 297 ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 3507.87 pixels. Rounding to whole pixels gives 2480 × 3508.

Resize an image to A4 proportions

The A-series uses an aspect ratio of 1:√2, or roughly 1:1.414. A normal camera photo usually has a different shape, so entering A4 dimensions without cropping may add distortion if the aspect ratio is unlocked.

  1. Crop the image to the A4 aspect ratio.
  2. Open the SuperUtils Image Resizer.
  3. For high-quality print, enter 2480 × 3508 pixels.
  4. Keep the aspect-ratio lock enabled unless the image is already cropped correctly.
  5. Download the resized file and confirm the print settings use A4 at 100% scale.

If the exported image is too large for an upload form, use the image compressor after resizing it.

A4 versus US Letter

A4 and US Letter are close but not interchangeable. US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches (215.9 × 279.4 mm), so it is wider and shorter than A4. Printing an A4 document on Letter paper can introduce scaling or change the margins; check the paper size in both the document and printer dialog.

Does DPI change the size of A4?

To change only a JPG or PNG’s print-resolution tag without changing its pixels, use the DPI converter. If you need the pixel dimensions in the table above, resize first, then set the DPI.

No. A4 remains 210 × 297 mm. Changing PPI or DPI changes how many image pixels or printer dots are assigned across that physical area. It affects digital dimensions and potential print detail, not the sheet itself.

Frequently asked questions

What is A4 paper size in inches?

A4 paper is approximately 8.27 inches wide by 11.69 inches high in portrait orientation.

What is A4 size in centimeters and millimeters?

A4 is exactly 21 × 29.7 centimeters, or 210 × 297 millimeters.

What is A4 size in pixels at 300 PPI?

A4 is 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 pixels per inch after rounding to whole pixels.

Is A4 the same as US Letter?

No. A4 is 210 × 297 mm (8.27 × 11.69 in), while US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. A4 is slightly narrower and taller.

What are the A4 landscape dimensions?

Landscape A4 uses the same physical size with the sides reversed: 297 × 210 mm, 29.7 × 21 cm, or about 11.69 × 8.27 inches.
